Syrian Interference In Lebanon, or Jewish Cunning?
Once again the twists and turns of the conflicts in the Mideast border on the absurd. As the Lebanese people prepare to bury the body of Pierre Gemayel, the target of assassination on November 21st; the pro-Syrian anti-Israel world press gears up to attempt to deflect suspicion away from Damascus.
No less than six prominent Lebanese leaders, opposed to the Syrian occupation and influence in Lebanon, have met assassination in past years. In fact, Belgian judge, Serge Brammerz heads a commission that is expected to issue a report within the month that will hopefully shed light on the Febuary 2005 murder of Rafiq Hariri, a leading opponent, at the time of Syrian involvement in Lebanon.
Not surprisingly, this commission is expected to find the fingerprints of Syria and Hizbollah all over the assassination. Enter, then, the alternative press! The pro-Muslim world press is eager to provide a conspiracy worthy of Oliver Stone.
IT WAS THE JEWS! Who else?
There is an alternative theory, which is equally plausible, in which the more likely culprits are Israel and its local agents. Those who advance it ask who benefits from the crime. Certainly not Syria and its Hizbullah allies who, to their great embarrassment, now find themselves denounced once again as criminals before world public opinion.
This accusation of a new heinous murder comes just at a time when Syria was on the point of re-engaging with Europe and the United States and when Hizbullah was hoping to reap political rewards from its stalwart resistance to Israel during last summer’s war.
That’s right! Confronted with the possibility of a government in Lebanon that would be less hostile to Israel; a government that might actually root out the Hizbollah terrorists along its southern border, and confront Syria about it’s interference in Lebanon; instead, Israel chose to assassinate that friend! They did this, of course, in the interest of keeping the Hizbollah murderers at their throats. Oh, those cunning Jews!
Damascus stressed that the timing of Gemayel's murder, on the day the United Nations endorsed a blueprint for a tribunal to try suspects in the 2005 murder of Hariri, was designed to cause it maximum damage.
The governing anti-Syrian camp in Beirut, faced with a growing challenge from Hezbollah since its war with Israel, is the only party which stands to gain from the minister's assassination, the official press in Damascus argued.
“The official press in Damascus!” The only press, I might add, that will be allowed the people of Syria. The only view, I might add, allowed the people of Iran, Syria’s puppet master. The only press heard by millions of Muslim peoples throughout the world.
The anti-Israel British press is complicit in this lie as well. One has to little wonder where this irrational hatred starts. The question that comes to MY mind is, “where will it end?”
