al-Qaeda Claims America is Iranian Agent

Iraqi al-Qaeda chief Abu Hamza al-Muhajir has issued a warning against the "Persian Empire, blasted Hizbullah chief Hassan Nasrallah by calling him an agent of the anti-Christ and a pretender.

In a statement released by al-Qaeda's al-Furqan Foundation, al-Muhajir has declared an Islamic State in Iraq, accused the United States of beign an agent of Iran and fighting thier wars for free, increasingly hostile anti-Iranian rhetoric and a call to al-Qaeda within Lebanon to rise up against the Hizbullah.

On November 17, Sunni al-Qaeda members called on all Lebanese Sunnis to prepare for an imminent confrontation. The announcement was launched on an al-Qaeda-owned website in Iraq and was published by none other then the Associated French Press.

A qoute from the article reads:

"Hizbullah is a party. In addition to having Iranian tendencies, basis, and support, it doesn’t hide its loyalty to the Syrian regime."

"We call on our people in Lebanon to face this bitter truth with courage and to tackle this hatred by preparing for a confrontation. We won’t let them (Shiites) implement their evil wishes after they succeeded in allowing an international force enter as a buffer between us and Palestine."

Quoted elsewhere:

The announcement even contained criticism of Hizbullah’s leaders’ political conduct and emphasized that “today they want to control all of Lebanon through an alliance with the crusaders and to eliminate the Sunni group completely. They should know we are prepared to fight them. It would be a war and we would be stronger than them.”

This was not the first time that Sunnis in Lebanon have expressed harsh sentiments towards Hizbullah. The Lebanese Mufti Sheik Muhammad Ali Al-Gozu declared that Nasrallah and his organization were working towards a revolution in Lebanon.

“Why does the minority want to force itself on the majority? Why does that minority wish to undermine the functioning of the majority? Who is behind factional plans presented as national ones, while at the same time turning the tables on everyone in order to provoke confusion and chaos in the country,” the sheikh asked.

All of this seems to be amied at increasing tension between Sunnis and Shiites, a century old conflict that shows no sign of relenting. He wants to let the Shiites know that they (al-Qaeda) are ready to fight them and prays to Allah to let there be war.

In this excert from the translated rhetoric al-Muhajir said:

"In a long waited step, for which sacrifices were granted and martyrs bloods were shed to achieve its path; the Mujahideen Shura Council in Iraq has announced the establishment of the 'Islamic State of Iraq,' the state of Islam that will rule the law of Allah on people and lands, that will protect the core (center) of Islam and acts as a solid shield for the Sunni people on the land of Iraq."

It appears to me that many desire a civil war in Lebanon, albeit with different outcomes in mind. Iran would love to have Syria in control, al-Qaeda would love to have the Sunni's win, etc.

No matter what the outcome, all feel that it would lead them one step closer to the end of Israel. What I see as a major fault in this line of reasoning is that none of the players vying for a win in Lebanon have given any consideration to the strength of Israel! They all assume that it would be a foregone conclusion that controlling Lebanon would be their key to the defeat of Israel, a fatal calculation to be sure.
